Frequently Asked Questions
Below we've compiled a list of frequently asked questions.
General
What are the Nebagamon Archives?
We created the Nebagamon Archives especially for you, our Alumni. We wanted an opportunity to share with you the rich history of the camp, so we've scanned our entire photo archives and the original cabin lists dating back to the 1920's. Our hope is that you'll enjoy finding yourselves and your former campmates and in turn will help us build our searchable database of images.
As an Alum of the camp, how can we help with the archives?
The best thing you can do is to navigate to the years you were at camp and tag yourself and your fellow campmates. This will help add to our searchable database of images. For information on tagging and how to do it, see below.
I have questions about a photo, what should I do?
Please click the "Email Us" option at the top of the screen and send us a message.
Photo Sets
I'd like to download a high resolution image suitable for printing. How do I do this?
It's easy. Once you navigate to the Image you want to download, click the download button (located between the next and previous arrow buttons) and you will be prompted to save a high resolution JPEG file of the image.
How do I get to images from the years that I was at camp?
Click 'Photo Sets' from the main Archives menu at the top of your screen. From here click the decade you were at camp and then the specific year. From here you'll see a list of albums from that year and you can browse through photos from each album by clicking on the album's thumbnail.
Searching
How do I search for an image?
At the top of the screen, type your search term into the search box. You have the option of searching the full text of the image (ie: the image number or title) or tags only. Once you have typed your search term, click 'go' and you will be taking to a page displaying all images for the associated search term.
Why does my search yield no results?
Most likely this is because your combination of search terms was not found in the database or you were too specific with your query. As an example, some photos are tagged with 'cabinpictures' rather than 'cabin pictures'. A search for the later will yield no results while the former yields many photos. In this example, it might be better to simply search for 'cabin'.
I searched for my name and nothing comes up. Why?
You have not yet been tagged in a photo. Navigate to a year in which you were at camp and look through photos until you spot yourself. Click the "add a tag" button and add your name. For more information on tagging, see below.
Tags
What is a tag and how is it helpful?
Tags are search terms added to photos in the Nebagamon Archive database. A tag can be a person's name, an event, or a year. These tags are associated to particular images, which then allow Archive users to search for specific types of images.
How do I add a tag?
After navigating to an image you want to tag, click the 'Add a tag' link. In an effort to keep the database as accurate as possible, select a previously used tag or create your own. Tags can be composed of more than one word, ie: 'cabin pictures'. To add multiple tags to an image, separate your tags with commas, ie: 'cabin pictures, fishing, Firstname Lastname'.
I tagged some images but the tags are not showing up. Why?
All new tags are held for moderation. Once a staff member confirms the tag is appropriate it will be displayed on the site. This usually takes less than 24 hours.
